Brother-Captain Indrick Boreale is the Force Commander of the Space Marines in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Soulstorm. Having studied under Gabriel Angelos, Boreale leads no less than five Blood Raven companies into battle, and favors a tactic called Steel Rain, where entire companies are reserved in space ready to deploy via drop pod, allowing them to take land quickly and put pressure on their enemies. As a result, he does not make much use of stationary defensive structures such as turrets.
Throughout the Kaurava Conflict, Boreale is forced to battle against other Imperial forces, namely the Sisters of Battle and the 252nd Conservator Regiment of the Imperial Guard, due to conflicting interests and each of them acting on their own. However, after his victory over the Sisters of Battle, Boreale orders his Blood Ravens to provide medical aid to the survivors, and arranges for them to be ferried back to the Convent Sanctorum on Ophelia VII at the mercy of the Inquisition.
The men of the 252nd Conservator Regiment are less fortunate, due to their suspected involvement in the outbreak of the Warp Storm. This, coupled with their refusal to cede control of the system, gives the Blood Ravens the authority to attack them (unlike fellow Brother-Captain Davian Thule's actions during the Dark Crusade, where the Blood Ravens tarnished their reputation by attacking seemingly loyal Imperial troops). Still, the Space Marines provide medical aid to any surviving Guardsmen and treat them as brothers in arms - before sending them back to Segmentum Command for Inquisitorial interrogation.
When all other factions are defeated in Soulstorm, the Blood Ravens take control of Kaurava and train a new Planetary Defense Force to better protect the system. Having acquitted themselves of the allegations of heresy leveled against them by the Kronus Liberators, the Blood Ravens are granted a concession: their own Fortress-Monastery on Kaurava II, in their chosen stronghold for the Kaurava Conflict, the Lands of Solitude. In honor of their victorious commander, though, this province is given a new name: Borealum.
Tactics
Indrick Boreale is, when fully upgraded, one of the most powerful commanders in the game. He can easily face most commanders one on one due to his potent wargear which dramatically increases his damage and survivability. The preferred first upgrades are Rogal's Fist and the Daemonhammer to increase his close combat effectiveness. Following this, Artificer Armor, Adamantine Mantle, and the Iron Halo are ideal.
Although strong, Boreale is not suited to fighting an entire enemy army on his own, so never send him into battle unsupported. A nearby Chaplain will further boost his health regeneration in addition to the bonus provided by the Adamantine Mantle, while the versatile Space Marine Squads can lay down cover fire. Later on, attach him to either Grey Knights or an Assault Terminator Squad as both complement his already impressive close combat strength. When upgraded with his Melta Gun, he may be attached to a Terminator Squad or Space Marine Squad to increase their ranged punch and deal with any melee units that tie them up.
