Heavy Destroyer

Like a regular Destroyer, Heavy Destroyers consist of an Immortal mounted on a Destroyer body. However, their weapon has been upgraded to a massive Heavy Gauss Cannon, giving them enough firepower to slag enemy vehicles but with far more speed than a regular Immortal could manage.

Tactics

The Heavy Destroyer is a fairly lackluster anti-vehicle vehicle.

It has decent health, good speed and fair AV damage. Its weaknesses however are that it comes late in the game, it's expensive, solely AV, and it can be forced into close combat. With only 30 range, it doesn't have the luxury of standing well out of combat like Immortals and attacking. So it is easier for the Heavy Destroyer to be tied up in melee or even chased out of combat completely. Although they do decent damage in melee, especially against infantry, who by and large are very poor at attacking vehicles, their primary job is taking down vehicles and they do more than 500% more damage to vehicles than infantry.

Overall, unless the anti-infantry firepower is too thick for your Immortals to do their job, the Heavy Destroyer isn't worth purchasing since it takes up vital vehicle cap, and Immortals already fulfill the role of AV for Necrons very well.

In team games of 2v2 or more, Heavy Destroyers get their time to shine. The real strength of the Heavy Destroyer is their speed. Destroyer units are notorious for causing pathing problems, so your best bet with Heavy Destroyers is to use teams of 2 or 3 of them late game to do heavy base harassment while your army attacks elsewhere. All Necron skimmers should be used for hit and run attacks if getting the most bang for your power is your goal. The speed of skimmers allows them to bypass slower moving groups of AV infantry and allows them to get to where they need to be, cause destruction, and get out when the situation gets a little too hot for them. They have a moderately fast build time when compared to the Tomb Spyder and are highly effecive at raiding enemy bases while the bulk of your forces attack elsewhere.

Example scenario: It's a 2v2 and your partner is getting double teamed by your opponents. It's fairly late game and you are moving your army to support your partner. You build 2 Heavy Destroyers while your army is marching to help your partner. During the ensuing firefight, you take those Heavy Destroyers and fly them straight into your enemies' base and start destroying unit producing buildings and generators. By the time your opponents realize what's happening, you pull out and harass your other opponents base. If you can destroy at least 2 or 3 buildings with your heavy destroyer teams, they have paid for their cost since you've taken from them the resources it takes to build the structure, as well as the resources they have to spend to rebuild.
