Flayed Ones
Dedicated close combat machines, the Flayed Ones are Necrons who pride themselves on striking fear in their foe by wearing the skinned hides of their victims. They are also able to deep strike and crawl from beneath the earth, adding to their already terrifying nature.
Tactics
Flayed One spamming is a cheap and effective tactic used by many Necron players. Flayed Ones are deployed via Deep Strike in the player's base, near the Necron Monolith. They are reinforced to their full squad size, then loaded back into the Monolith. Once a critical mass has been achieved, a spotter unit such as Builder Scarabs are used to locate the enemy base and then the entire force is deployed in the enemy base. From this point forward, the Necron player builds nothing but Flayed Ones, immediately deep striking them into the field and directing them to destroy enemy buildings rather than try to slowly chase around the enemy infantry. The Flayed Ones are durable enough to weather the incoming fire for quite some time, often long enough to destroy the enemy base despite the attempts by the defenders.
In the Soulstorm expansion, this tactic has been toned down quite a bit as the Flayed Ones do not do as much damage to vehicles/buildings as they once did. A stronger use of the Flayed Ones in the current version of Dawn of War is to force enemy infantry squads to flee from them while allowing warriors to do early game Listening Post disruption or focus fire. A typical scenario involves using Necron Warriors to act as a spotter. Once the enemy infantry is engaged with the Warriors, deep strike a squad or two (preferably two) of Flayed Ones behind the enemy infantry squads to force the opponent to either continue firing upon the Warriors and get tied up in CC, or the more intelligent decision which is to flee. The Flayed Ones stay on their targets and chase them until a potentially fatal threat is spotted, after which they teleport back to the Monolith to be redeployed as circumstance requires. This allows the warriors to fire upon any early game structures such as listening posts or offensively built barracks buildings. This tactic is not foolproof, but is effective against most opponents that do not expect it.
