Daemon Prince
"I have ascended - none may challenge me!!"
The ultimate boon bestowed upon the most worthy servants of Chaos. To ascend to Daemonhood brings enormous powers that the Daemon Prince is all too willing to let loose on the battlefield
Notes: When built the Daemon Prince replaces the Chaos Lord. The Daemon Prince gains 5 HP/s while in melee combat.
Tactics
The Daemon Prince is a campaign only unit in the original Dawn of War. Sindri Myr, the main antagonist of the original Dawn of War campaign, transforms into a Daemon Prince during the campaign's final level, All Out War. As he is a campaign only unit, he is the strongest unit in the game, but group of Predators and Terminator Squads can take him on and win without much difficulty.
The Daemon Prince reappears as a usable unit in Dark Crusade, though for balancing purposes is much weaker. None the less, the Daemon Prince is a being to be feared when used properly. Speaking roughly, he does about 30 percent more damage to infantry of all types, about 30 percent more damage to commanders, double the amount of damage to vehicles of most types as the Chaos Lord, about double the damage to buildings of most types, and about double the morale damage per blow as the Chaos Lord. But against units with vehicle high armor and daemon high armor, he does about half the damage the Chaos Lord would, making him less effective against uber units. However, it is hard to account for the Daemon Prince's special attacks (e.g. his Maledictum attack which hits several enemies and does excellent morale damage) which seem to be quite powerful. All in all, switching from the Chaos Lord to the Daemon Prince in battle is indeed an upgrade.
One thing a Chaos user should immediately note about the Daemon Prince is that for a unit of his size, he moves around very quickly. He also has a tendency to be summoned while in the back of a large infantry group, a problem as he has no ranged attack. Be sure to get the smaller Chaos Lord to the front lines before summoning the large Daemon Prince. It doesn't take very long, but it may require some good micromanagement.
Another point to mention is, regardless of the health of the Chaos Lord, the Daemon Prince will always be summoned with 100% health. So it is wise to always wait until your Chaos Lord is nearly dead then summon the Prince.
His daemon armor is susceptible to anti-daemon troops such as the Grey Knights as well as several of the commanders of the other races. If locked up in one on one combat vs most commanders, he may defeat them because of his high health, but he will more than likely receive much more damage than he delivers.
The Daemon Prince's best ability is his Daemon Roar which breaks most enemy squads. Its range however, requires the squads to be quite close to the Daemon Prince, a task not too difficult to accomplish. Broken squads do negligible damage as they try and fight back and so it will very quickly turn the tide of battle against a heavily clustered infantry army. In addition, commanders who are unattached or who are attached to squads susceptible to morale damage are also rendered useless. Coupling the Daemon Roar with the Daemon Strength ability will often spell annihilation for the broken squads.
