Chaplain Varnus
"We have weathered fiercer storms than this! Hold the line, damn you. You will not embarrass the Emperor today by dying!"
Chaplain Varnus is the leader of the Ultramarines Space Marines bodyguard force that is detailed with the task of protecting and delivering the Titan's Princeps and crew to the site of the Titan "Dominatus". On their way there, the Chaos Space Marine forces shot down the Thunderhawk which was transporting them. Varnus and the handful of surviving Space Marines held off waves of oncoming Chaos forces, sending an S.O.S message that was received by General Sturnn. In response, General Sturnn assembled his Imperial Guard forces to go on a search and rescue mission deep behind enemy lines.
A notable fact is that Chaplain Varnus singlehandedly defeated a Bloodthirster in combat.
Tactics
Chaplain Varnus is not directly controllable in the Winter Assault campaign. In the Order campaign he appears in a faction allied to the Imperial Guard. It is possible however to exercise some indirect control over him in Order mission 4 when using the Imperial Guard; General Sturn has a 'call convoy' ability that causes the Ultramarine force (including Chaplain Varnus) to move to the General's position. One good tactical use of this is to position the Ultramarines ahead of your fragile Guard squads because the Chaplain is a wrecking machine in melee and deals well with the waves of Raptors and Orks that rush your forces.
