Whirlwind
"Whirlwind Artillery Tank here."
The only real artillery used by the Space Marine forces. Working more as an elite strike team than a regular army, the Space Marines rarely fight in sieges or trench wars, where conventional artillery is mostly used. However, when deemed necessary, the Whirlwind can be deployed to support its infantry brethren. Armed with a long ranged missile battery, the lightly armoured tank usually follows slightly behind the main battle line, raining death upon the enemy from afar.
Tactics
The Whirlwind is designed for disrupting enemy infantry from afar. This is very useful for the ranged armies of the Space Marines, who need enemies kept away from them. The Whirlwind serves this purpose admirably and can do so in safety far from the front lines. Compared to the Basilisk, a more commonly used artillery, the Whirlwind does more damage and has a greater area of effect. Unfortunately it has less range, fires more slowly, takes more vehicle cap, has a limit of one, and lacks anything to compare to the Earthshaker Round.
If used properly a Whirlwind can be a boon to a Space Marine army, but keep in mind the limitations. Using five vehicle cap can be hard to justify as a Predator takes the same amount and two Dreadnoughts take six.
However, against massed infantry armies, especially ranged heavy ones (Tau in particular), they are deadly, doing good damage as well as disrupting the enemy's fire and allowing you to close quickly for melee.
